This week’s guest, if we’re speaking in beer years, is a lifelong friend. But what feels like a lifetime only started around 1987 in University Place when there weren’t any craft breweries in the South Sound. At the time, Kent Wetzler was a bartender at Sea Galley, where he became Employee of the Year. In the 1990s, Wetzler bartended and managed at The Drake, a four-floor nightclub in downtown Tacoma. When he wasn’t fishing and hunting, the Spokane native ran beer routes for several distributors before landing the craft brand manager at Marine View Beverage where he added lifelong friends. When Marine View shuttered, Wetzler went on to be the regional sales manager for Heritage Distilling and, today, sales manager for Townshend Cellar. In Grit & Grain Episode 48, Wetzler discusses those early days behind the bar, his time at Marine View, and his adventures in the Hot Tub Time Machine.
