“When we first name “Bodhizafa” … we spelled it B.o.d.h.i.z.a.f.a. phonetically, and then we Googled it and Patrick Swayze was the first thing that came up. “That’s it!” explains Manny Chao, co-founder of Georgetown Brewing, keeping the brewery’s love for the film, “Point Break,” alive.
“Nailed it!” added Roger Bialous, the other founder of Georgetown Brewing.
“Nailed it!” Chao agreed. “But it’s actually “Bodhisattva” … named after a Hindu god.
“Not Hindu — Buddhist!” corrected Bialous.
“Buddhist god! Chao emphasized.
“Not a god,” corrected Bialous.
“F-up story within a F-up story,” added Grit & Grain co-host Sean Jackson causing an eruption of laughter.
The laughs continue as the Grit & Grain podcast presents Part 2 of our chat with Georgetown Brewing’s co-founders Manny Chao and Roger Bialous drops. Episode 10 digs deeper into the brewery’s beers, including the history of Bodhizafa IPA and it’s GABF Gold Medal, the touching story of their charity beer, Bob’s Brown, and how 9lb Porter received its name.
